Happy Birthday to ME!!!

Posted by Dan on Feb 28, 2004 @ 11:59 PM

Well, today was my birthday. Jenn took me out for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then we headed back to the house to relax a bit. We left the house around 2:30pm on our way to Troy, OH to pick out the new puppy.

There were three black female Labs left out the litter of 13 (the seven males were all still there.) We took Maddie with us to help pick out her baby sister. The remaining females all had very similiar personalities and they all took to Maddie right away—which was to be expected since the breeder has lots of Labs around the puppies. We ended up picking out the slightly smaller female—she just had a certain spunk about her. I let Jenn make the decision since she was the one purchasing the dog. Jenn decided the puppy's name is "Nikita," but we'll call her "Nikki."

After we left the breeder's house, we headed to my parent's house to celebrate my dad's and my birthday. The weather was really nice for February—in the high 50s, low 60s—so my Dad ended up being stuck at DQ because they were swamped. When we got to my parents house, Jenn, Jeff, my mom and I all stayed outside playing with the puppy for a few hours. My mom was running in and out of the house preparing dinner.

My grandparents ended up coming over for a bit so that I could open up their present to me. They got my Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD—which had been on my Amazon Wishlist.

Jeff ended up needing to go in to DQ to help out with the rush, so we ended up eating dinner without dad (but we waited for him to get home before eating Birthday Cake.) Mom fixed my our standard B-day meal, Beef Stroganoff. (For those that don't know, I was born on my dad's 25th birthday, so we share our birthday together every year.)

Anyway, my dad finally got home and he was able to eat while I showed off the DVD I put together of the cruise we all just got back from in January. After dad finished dinner, we all ate birthday cake (Blueberry Cheesecake.) We then hung around for a while and then headed back home to Columbus.

The two dogs seem to be getting along pretty well. I know the true test to see how they get along was to get Maddie home w/Nikki. Maddie was very good around her this evening—she even was willing to share her rawhide briefly (rawhide's really not good for the digestive system, so didn't really let Nikki chew on the rawhide for long—just long enough to think she was like her big sister.)

Anyway, it was a good birthday, I'm just tired now! I've copied over the pictures and movies I took to my notebook tonight and I'll try to get the pictures posted to my photoalbum in the next 24-48 hours.

NOTE:
Oh yeah, for those of you who care, I was only a few hours away from being a leap year. If I had been born like 4 hours later, I would just be celebrating my 8th birthday celebration tomorrow! I'll let you do the math to figure out my age. :)

  • First off, Happy Birthday!!
My family is leaving for the same cruise you took, March 21. We plan to do stingrays, Belize river tour, Passion Island, and beach time in Costa Maya. How about cost, is this a good agenda for a 15 yr. girl and 11 yr. old boy?
  • The costs of the tours ranged from about $45/person to as high as like $195/person (children were cheaper on some of the tours.) I think the Stingray tour was around $65-85/person. I think the Stingray tour was the most expensive one we went on--but it was definitely worth it--that is if you're going to get in the water and swim with them. :)

I beach at Passion Island is beautiful--easily the prettiest we saw--but one word of caution, there's an open bar at the beach. I didn't see any outlandish behavior going on and there were plenty of kids there, but I just thought I throw that out there. I don't think I'd have any problem taking teenagers there.

On the Belize tour, the one that looked really great is the tubing down the river (and that's the one everyone was talking about.) If that's the one you're doing--you should be in good shape. (Even if not, I'm sure you're still in good shape--I didn't really hear a bad word about any of the tours.)

If you decide on trying to hit any of the Mayan Ruins, my parents said they enjoyed the ones in Belize a little better than at Costa Maya, but our tour guide wasn't able to give us a narrative tour because an older gentleman on the bus had fallen off one of the ruins while climbing around and he had to attend to him.

One last suggestion, since you know what you want to do now, I'd recommend turning in your tour requests right away. We tended to do ours the night before. We didn't have a problem getting in a tour (except for at Belize,) but we just taking things day-by-day.
  • it was good to see you on your b-day. hope you had a nice one.
