Running Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 simultaneously

Posted by Dan on Jun 19, 2008 @ 1:22 PM

I've been running my different versions of Firefox under different profiles, that way I can keep each instance unique. This works great, but I still couldn't figure out how to open both Firefox 2 & 3 at the same time. Turns out I was missing the -no-remote command line parameter in my Firefox 3 shortcut.

Here's a great write up on how to run Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 simultaneously—which provides you with full instructions on setting your shortcuts up so you can run Firefox 2 & 3 at the same time.

  • Hey Dan, glad you found it useful and thanks for the mention. :-) Have a great weekend!

Great information, it definitely is saving me a lot of time being able to keep both versions open at the same time.
  • I started using the -no-remote flag when I had to run my jsf apps in Jdeveloper was getting annoyed having to restart Firefox with everything I had open. So, now I just use a different profile with no-remote that I can clear cache/cookies and re-run my jsf apps leaving my daytime browser open all the time.
